緊迫するエジプト情勢。「4月6日運動」は2月1日に100万人デモを呼びかける

Egyptian protesters have called for a massive demonstration on Tuesday in a bid to force out president Hosni Mubarak from power. The so-called April 6 Movement said it plans to have more than a million people on the streets of the capital Cairo, as anti-government sentiment reaches a fever pitch.Several hundred demonstrators remained camped out in Tahrir square in central Cairo early on Monday morning, defying a curfew that has been extended by the army.

The April 6 Youth Movement is an Egyptian Facebook group started by Ahmad Maher in Spring 2008 to support the workers in El-Mahalla El-Kubra, an industrial town, who were planning to strike on April 6. Activists called on participants to wear black and stay home the day of the strike. Bloggers and citizen journalists used Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, blogs and other new media tool to report on the strike, alert their networks about police activity, organize legal protection and draw attention to their efforts.

　2008年の春、工業都市のEl-Mahalla El-Kubraで4月6日に計画された労働者ストを支援するためにフェイスブック（Facebook）上で始まった運動らしい。フェイスブックを見てみたら、それが、こちららしい。

　アラビア語なので何を書いてあるのか、わからない。理解できるのは、写真ぐらい。Googleのブラウザー、Chromeで日本語に「翻訳」を選択してみたが、バラバラの日本語で意味はよくわからんかった。しかし、見ていると、エネルギーは伝わってくる。このページには、3万3000人余りが「いいね！」を付けていた。反体制側も体制側も、このフェイスブックのページをウォッチしているのだろう。
　英Economistには、ムバラク陣営が資料の廃棄を始めているというレポートも出ていたし*1、ムバラク政権の終焉が近付いてくる感じ。マルコス大統領を追放したフィリピンのエドゥサ革命（2月革命）、あるいはパーレビ（パフラヴィー）国王を国外亡命に追いやったイラン革命のような街頭行動がエジプトで再現されるのだろうか。関心は、その後に、どのような政権が成立するかに移っていくのだろう。それとも、ムバラク大統領が土俵際で持ちこたえるのか。米国も、イスラエルも、マーケットも固唾を飲んで見つめていることは間違いない。
