FBIが米住宅ローン大手を捜査ーー住専を思い出すなあ

The Federal Bureau of Investigation is probing subprime lender Countrywide Financial Corp. for possible securities fraud, according to law-enforcement officials and finance-industry executives.The inquiry involves whether company officials made misrepresentations about the company's financial position and the quality of its mortgage loans in securities filings, four people with knowledge of the matter said. It is at an early stage, they emphasized.

　サブライム問題をきっかけに破裂した米国の住宅バブル。これから金融機関の救済とか、いろいろな話が出てくるのだろうが、そうした中で、FBIが住宅ローンの大手「カントリーワイド」の捜査に着手したらしい。財務内容の虚偽報告などの容疑らしいが、いずれせよ、バブルが破裂すると、バブル期の金融の放埒が浮かび上がる。こうした事件を見ていると、日本のバブル崩壊後の住専問題を思い出すなあ。住専が巨額の不良債権に沈み、経営破綻したときは、東京地検特捜部が住専関連の事件に突っ込んだ。サブプライムローン問題を抱えた米国も「国策捜査」に動くのだろうか。何だかデジャブだなあ。
